Getting the funding for printing up front relieves us of those worries, and through stretch goals, it allows us to consider making the omnibus bigger and better, depending on how much interest we can raise in the project. Sure, we probably could have figured out a way to pay for the initial print run ourselves, but that would have put a crimp on our finances and created challenges for the other exciting projects in our pipeline. We are funding the Digger Omnibus via Kickstarter because we think it will be a fun event in addition to helping raise the funds for printing.

They’re all correct! And now that we’ve made it official that we are doing just that, we no longer have to dance around to avoid direct answers. Digger’s fans very helpfully and enthusiastically suggest that a Kickstarter campaign would be a great way to fund the project. They keep asking Ursula and Kevin about it on their blogs and their KUEC podcast. People keep sending us emails asking whether we’re going to do a single-volume edition of Digger.
